Dr. Zackary Elkins, a native of Leeds, AL, is an alumnus of Huntingdon College where he performed as a collegiate athlete and completed his BA in Cell Biology. He would go on to graduate from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, School of Optometry in 2018 with his Doctorate in Optometry. He also completed his surgical procedures certifications from Northeastern State University, College of Optometry.
In his time at UAB he developed a passion for primary and pediatric optometric care and ocular diseases including macular degeneration and glaucoma. Dr. Elkins has also developed a passion for fitting specialty scleral contact lenses, which particularly benefit patients with keratoconus, dry eye disorder, and other corneal diseases.
Dr. Elkins resides in Fairhope, AL with his wife, Haley, two pups, and daughter, Everly. As a former state champion in high school football and division III collegiate athlete, he has a passion for athletics and outdoor hobbies. When out of the clinic, he enjoys volunteering with local sports teams and hiking with his dog, Barkley.
As an avid Green Bay Packer and Crimson Tide football fan, you’ll find him sporting his sports apparel around the clinic every fall. Since relocating to his wife’s hometown, he has felt very welcomed on the Eastern Shore and looks forward to serving his community.
